Chavín-Sechín Decapitation Statue loading

This ceramic statue from the Casma-Sechin River Valley, dated to 1800-1000 B.C.E., depicts features from both the Casma-Sechin culture, as seen at Cerro-Sechín, and also designs that are characteristic of the later Chavín culture.Note the staff/weapon held by the figure is similar to the warriors of Cerro-Sechín. That site also had large paintings of felines, with similar clawed paws, thought to be a predasessor of Chavín's "Cult of the Feline".Located at the Chilean Museum of Pre Columbian Art.
