Chavín Funerary Offering

A gold funerary offering in the style of the Chavín religion, depicting the Staff God. These are flanked by two eagle deities, similar to the steeles on the columns of the Chavín de Huantar temple. The location that this was from is uncertain, but according to the archeologist John Holand Rowe, it is believed to have been discovered in the Lambeyeque Valley. Other similar Chavín style gold crowns were also found on Peru's north coast associated with the Cupisnique culture.
