Although generally attributed to the Nazca culture, the earliest geoglyphs in this region are believed to date back to the earlier Paracas culture. The backwards leaning posture of the figure on the left here is commonly scene in Paracas textiles, as is thought to represent the individual's transition into the afterlife.
