Blue-fronted Amazon Parrots

Amazona aestiva has been one of the most heavily traded parrots in the world. Legal trapping in Argentina peaked in the 1980s, when more than half a million wild birds went into the pet trade, and the species remained the most-exported South American parrot into the 2000s. It is listed on CITES Appendix II, and the IUCN now assesses it as Near Threatened with a declining population. These two are in Kaa-Iya del Gran Chaco National Park in eastern Bolivia, where the birds are protected inside the park boundary.
