South American Gray Fox

South American Gray Fox loading

Despite its name, the South American gray fox is biologically more closely related to more dog-like canids, like wolves and jackals, than to true foxes. They belong to a South American lineage that include maned wolves, bush dogs and the Andean fox. Their fox-like is an example of convergent evolution, where distinct branches evolve similar traits, often due to similar diets or environmental pressures.
