Galapagos Island Cacti
Pricky-pear cacti normally grow very low to the ground. After the arrival of tortoises on this dry island that began to change. Those cacti that grew taller were less likely to become eaten by the ground dwelling tortoises, and more likely to pass on their genetics. Over millions of years tree-like trunks evolved.
